The goal of this white paper is to provide guidance to storage suppliers, storage re-marketers and customers on the long term costs associated with storing file archive data. The amount of archive data is projected to grow dramatically over the coming years, and yet customers’ Information Technology budgets are highly constrained. As a result, organizations are looking for cost effective solutions for the data archival. This paper evaluates two approaches to storing file based, non-compressible, archive data: 1) a solution that includes the new Crossroads Systems StrongBox® configured with an enterprise tape library and, 2) an equivalent amount of Unified Storage from a leading industry supplier. The white paper finds that customers may reduce TCO up to 80% over a ten year period with the StrongBox tape-based solution.
